The Block: The First Snowboard Resort in TahoeMarch 14th, 2007
Designed and created by pro-boarder Marc Frank Montoya and hotelier Liko S. Smith.
You know that feeling of being a snowboard minority in a ‘Ski’ resort? Tired of getting treated like you’re up to no good, while you walk around your hotel, based solely on your snowboard? Ever wanted to be in a snowboarder reality show? Want some free energy drinks? Well, if you answered yes to any of these questions, THE BLOCK, the world’s first snowboarders only resort, is your hangout. Pro boarder Marc Frank Montoya with Las Vegas Hotelier Liko S. Smith, designed and created The Block in the beautiful South Lake Tahoe. With a second location open in Big Bear, Tahoe, The Block has plans of global expansion, aiming at hot spots in: Chamonix, France; Andorra, Spain; Davos, Switzerland; Nagano, Japan; Rossland, Canada; Mammoth, California; and Vail and Brekenridge, Colorado. These locations are still coming together so in the meantime, check out Lake Tahoe or Big Bear for some great spring boarding.
Named after its shape, The Block has ‘no frills’ style rooms with fully stocked audio/videofeatures to keep you busy during your stay. The basic rooms have one or two beds and a balcony. The décor is straight up with basic colors and furniture and all the convenient features you’ll need. Each room is equipped with cordless phones, ipod compatible stereos, TVs, PS2s, free wireless internet, board and bike racks and to top it off, boot and glove dryers. For some March riding, one of these stocked rooms will run you about $150-160 a night. Now here’s what makes The Block unique: Custom signature rooms designed by top brands. Each room has it own original setup with custom furnishings and high-tech equipment. An obvious edge over your regular Four Seasons room, The Block signature suites are available now for $200-230 a night. Flow Room
