What do you get when you mix diamond watches, the Black Mafia Family and dozens of celebrities? The answer is Jacob Arobo, aka “Jacob The Jeweler”. The American Jewish jeweler, known as the owner and founder of the Jacob & Company, is well known for a few things other than his extravagant time pieces.

JACOB & Co. was founded in New York City during the early ‘80s. Jacob’s passion for jewelry began when he was a young boy growing up in Russia. Just after immigrating to the United States with his family, he enrolled in jewelry design school hoping to develop his natural talents, and he quickly rose to the top of the class. Jacob opened a small booth in New York City’s bustling diamond district and quickly began designing for a number of jewelry brands and private clients.

In the mid ‘90s, R&B singer Faith Evans was out shopping for jewelry when she stumbled upon Jacob’s little shop. Completely taken by his unique designs, she quickly returned later that day with her husband, Notorious BIG. This set off a fever in the hip hop community which led to many big name rappers to not only wear his watches, but rap about them in over 30 songs.

So it seems all was going too good for Jacob, up until the summer of 2006. He was arrested by the FBI on money laundering charges with ties back to the “Black Mafia Family (BMF)”. Allegations that Jacob laundered up to $270 million dollars in drug money for the BMF were quickly dismissed with little evidence and he was released after posting bail.

Jacob’s signature watches are still selling out all over the world and he has added a new line of designs, such as the Tourbillion, The Standard Automatic and The World luxury watch. These new designs all take on the usual flavor of big, shiny and chalk full of expensive gems. The watches go anywhere from $250 USD all the way upwards of a mere $50000 USD, and that’s before you make any custom changes.

Aside from the mafia scandal, Jacob & Co has been thriving in America and has started to tackle the hard to crack European watch market. Hopefully in the years to come Jacob can stay out of trouble and continue to make those one of a kind time pieces.
