Short For The SummerMay 26th, 2007
Cool, breezy and clean is the right attitude this season so make sure you rep what you feel.
Everyone wants to look great, especially in the summer! That chill summer outfit that everyone wants, and can be gotten, is just a matter of minutes away. We have already talked about some key essential items for this summer that you must have, but we have not explored one of the most important pieces, and that would be: the shorts. Shorts have taken a rollercoaster ride of styles
over the past few years with what is considered "in" or "out". Let's start by saying shorts that hang to your ankles are out! Put them in the bag with the rest of the items that are a give away and do a good deed by getting rid of them! Shorts should be simple and classic. An example of this is the cargo short. Just like a cargo pant, they are extremely comfortable, and go with almost anything. You don't sweat in this style because you have a nice breeze coming in.
The only difference between the cargo short and the cargo pant is that one is a short, and one is a pant. The same key guidelines apply.
The nice thing about shorts is that you can get a little funkier with the colors and styles. A must have for cargos is the standard camo cargo short. These shorts can be found at any of the Urban Outfitters locations, for to nearest locations, see their website at www.urbn.com. These basic camo shorts come in three different colors. Another style for cargo shorts is the patterned cargo short, also found at Urban Outfitters. This style is a cargo short of camo fabrics patched together, and it looks pretty cool! Another good style of cargo short is the BKE Barbados short. This is a very basic cargo short that can come in such earthy colors as beige and olive. More basic kinds of shorts can be made from any fabric styled striped to plain. Again, the only difference between the pant and short is the length, so follow the same guidelines of fit around the waist and butt. Billabong makes a great basic short. A great style for a short by them is the pin-striped charcoal short that hits right at the knees, called the "alley short". Billabong also makes a very stylish plaid short called the "francis". Plaid shorts are a more fashion forward item so be careful when picking out different styles of these shorts. The Hurley "reverb" short is another plaid short I would suggest looking at. Vertical striped shorts are another design. Paul Frank makes a great vertically striped short. The stripes should blend in easily with the colors. For example, these Paul Frank shorts are an army colored short and have a variation of that army color green. As long as you remain within these guidelines, this concept for this style of shorts can be amazing!
Now that we have discussed what to do, let's touch on what not to do. When choosing plaid shorts definitely choose an earthly color range. Let's just say red, yellow and purple are more what your grandfather would wear on the golf course. Please try to steer away from that. Another key rule in buying shorts is to not buy horizontally striped ones especially those that are contrasting colors such as red and black. These two things are very important to remember, encompass what NOT to do.Shorts are going to be your best friend this summer with the hot weather on its way. These styles of shorts can be worn with style and add to your over all look. You can cruise the beaches, stay fresh, stay cool and look great all summer long! ![]() About the author: Rochel Friedlander has spent her last five years working in men's fashion in New York City.
