T.I. vs. T.I.P. – Battling Personas from AtlantaJuly 3rd, 2007
Already breaking records, can T.I. repeat the feat that “King” turned out to be in 2006?
After a hard hitting 2006 performance in the underrated film ATL, T.I. comes into 2007 with a little more dramatic panache. Fortunately for us, he doesn’t take after famed spaz case, Outkast; who despite his public cry for attention, is quite possibly one of the most creative hip hop artist/producer to enter the industry. T.I. Vs. T.I.P. is the fifth studio album by the Atlanta rapper released on July 3rd, 2007.
So Why T.I. Vs. T.I.P. ? T.I. explained the album’s title, saying, "It’s basically a battle within myself, there’s not nobody out there doing what I do as well as I do it, so I see myself as worthy competition for myself." While we can name more than a few successful artists that would disagree, his new album was breaking records before it was even released. It's the follow-up to last year's top-selling rap album, King, which moved 1.6 million units in the U.S.
Heavily influenced by all American producer Just Blaze, the album features many more collabs with hip hop all stars such as Mannie Fresh, Danja, Eminem, Wyclef, and Jay-Z. T.I. stays true to his own style and does a classy remake of “Top Back”, featured in King. The remix is produced by newly signed Def Jam producer Mannie Fresh and features all the classic rolls that made “Top Back” famous. With a top notch production lineup as this, T.I. could have easily laid back and recorded a good album with little effort, but we know that isn’t true in the slightest.
The album is broken into three hard-hitting parts as T.I. breaks into a battle with himself, and the industry that gave him birth. While we would love to do nothing but spoil the entire album, no short write-up could possibly match the perfection of professionally re-mastered tracks. All I can recommend is hold out ‘til the very end when Danja makes a solid appearance with the smooth flowing beats of, “Respect this Hustle”.
