It’s almost October and you can feel the cool breeze of autumn streaming through the air. It’s telling us that it is time to say goodbye to that warm weather. Fall is officially here and it is time to pack away your summer clothes and bust out your pants and long-sleeve shirts. Some people dread the winter, but I look at it as another fashion experience with outerwear. Winter coats and jackets are just another excuse to spice up your fashion resume. There are three categories: light weight jackets, heavy jackets and coats. Coats need to be put into a separate category as they are a totally different style and are worn in different situations. The main difference between the coat and the jacket is that jackets are less formal.

Let’s begin with light weight jackets. The light jacket is usually worn in early fall. The basic fall jacket that every guy should own is a motorcycle style leather jacket. BC Ethic makes a great unique style of motorcycle jacket. The “Dragrace” jacket by BC Ethic is a great fit that is a light weight jacket. This jacket can be worn out to a bar or just out for the day and will go perfectly with a tee shirt and jeans. It comes in a washed out black color with canvas sleeves. It is also lightly lined to keep you warm. If your personal fashion style is not a motorcycle jacket then the Triple Five Soul nylon lined jacket called the “Dovoe Jacket” would be a perfect substitute. This jacket comes in either army green and black and has a wide variety of pockets on the front that add to its unique look. The back just has simple quilted detail. This jacket is a great light weight jacket for the fall.

Next, let’s talk about the heavy jackets. The name says it all here. Heavy jacket means heavy and therefore is worn during the midst of winter when it gets really cold! The Diesel “Westaksp Hooded Parka” is a great choice. It is a canvas heavy duty jacket that has a removable fur lining on the hood with a high neck line to keep you extra warm. A high neck and hood are two key components to keeping warm this winter. This jacket comes in black only. Above all this jacket is warm and stylish! Triple Five Soul also makes a great heavier weight canvas jacket with a fleece Sherpa lining and hood. It is warm and stylish and comes in dark olive. Both these brands, Diesel and Triple Five Soul have many other options that are stylish and warm as well.

The final category is the Pea Coat. Pea Coats are warm but are a much more formal piece of outerwear. They are primarily made of wool or cashmere. Marc Jacobs makes very upscale simple and classic three button pea coat. This coat should hit about three inches above the knee and not be too baggy. Juicy for Men makes a great new style for a Pea Coat. It is knee length and has a tighter fit. It also comes in brown and has a double breasted military inspired front view. This pea coat, unlike other pea coats, is lined all the way through with Lamb Sherpa for extra warmth. Juicy is a newcomer into the men’s world and so far gets an A plus for designs of outerwear! Burberry makes a Pea Coat that is a little bit shorter and hits just below the waistline, offering a great classic style. It is double breasted in the front and comes in the classic navy color. It is made from wool and is quilted inside for extra warmth. An additional great feature is that this coat has a top button that closes the neckline to add warmth and style like all classic pea coats do. Marc Jacobs, Juicy, and Burberry all offer great styles of pea coats that you could own for this upcoming cold season.

These are just a few of the many great styles of jackets and coats that are out in the stores today. You can go from a motorcycle look to the formal pea coat. Finding the outerwear that suits you and your personal style shouldn’t be hard. With all these great styles to choose from, your winter will be not only cool but stylish!
