Top Sweaters for MenOctober 18th, 2007
Sweaters are back this fall to give you a cleaner look than sweatshirts!
Until now men have primarily worn sweatshirts when the temperature starts to drop. In the past, the sweater was an item that most men didn’t feel comfortable with. The sweatshirt was always the cooler alternative until now. The sweater market has exploded with some cooler styles and colors. Hugo Boss, Armani Exchange and John Varvatos are three great designers who have revamped the sweater to be cool.Let’s look at Hugo Boss as the first designer to discuss. When you think Hugo Boss you are thinking of suits and that is completely correct. This is a very simple and classic brand that has suits, but they also make various other things such as ties, shirts, and sweaters. Additionally, they have even expanded their horizons to encompass clothes for kids. So if you have kids you and your son can wear the same Hugo Boss outfit. Let’s begin with their zip up sweater that is called the “loungewear two way zip jacketâ€. As you can see, the name says it all. Not only is it warm for those bitter cold days, but it’s also comfortable. This sweater only comes in charcoal so it could be worn in many ways. I think that it would be best put with a black plain cotton tee shirt, a pair of “paddom†jeans by Diesel, and Puma trendy trainers. It is a simple and loungy design that goes best with the simple and classic look. Even though it is simple and classic it is still a chill look so you can use it sometimes instead of wearing that sweatshirt. The next classic sweater by Hugo Boss is the simple crew neck cashmere sweater. This is a classier look so you can wear this with a leather belt, a pair of pants or jeans, and finally a leather pair of classic looking shoes. To give you more options, this sweater comes in three colors which are olive, marine, and black. Both of these Hugo Boss sweaters are a great new classic addition to your fall wardrobe for the cold days this winter.
The next designer is Armani Exchange. This brand is a division of Armani but it is a funkier and younger look. The first style is a polo inspired sweater called the “patch polo sweaterâ€. It has the look of a long sleeve polo shirt but has a soft washed down look to it with patching on the shoulder and front. This is a fitted sweater that should hit right about the top button of your pants. It comes in nickel and white so you have a bit of an option. It can be worn with jeans or pants and preferably with nice leather shoes of a lighter color. The next style is similar to the Hugo Boss zip up as it can be worn as a light jacket as well. It is called the “faux shearling sweaterâ€. This is a zip up sweater with patch work on the elbows which is heavier in the front than on the sleeves, thus giving a very cool effect to the look. This sweater comes in two colors: black and white. I prefer the white because it is more original and this winter white is very popular. With the white you can wear a plain color tee shirt preferably charcoal or black with the “Paddom†Diesel jeans and some cool Aesics trendy trainers. On a cold night you can spice up this outfit by putting on a cool colored beanie and scarf as well. These are just two of the many styles that Armani Exchange makes for this fall. They are all great and have a snug fit and funky look!
The last designer we will explore is John Varvatos. We mentioned John Varvatos previously when we were discussing suits, but he is another suit designer that does much more than just suits. John Varvatos is a very upscale, funky yet clean brand. The fits are very precise and the fabrics are impeccable. The first style is the cardigan. I know that when you think cardigan you are thinking grandpa but this cardigan is not only young but funky! This is a dark olive washed down cardigan that has a corduroy border. It has a snug fit that closes with big olive buttons. This sweater can be worn with anything from a formal outfit to a chill looking outfit with trendy trainers. The next style is a basic v-neck sweater with a bit more. This v neck sweater is a charcoal sweater with a black outline around the edges. This sweater is on the simpler side but a v-neck sweater should be. With this it is all about the fit. This sweater should hit right below the top button of your pants and jeans. The last style is the zip-up sweater. This is a zip-up sweater that uses metal zippers for the front and side pockets. It has a motorcycle jacket-inspired collar and is very fitted. This should hit right about your pants. This sweater comes in charcoal. I would suggest wearing this sweater with a solid white fitted tee shirt, black leather non-glossy belt, “Zathan†jeans by Diesel, and trendy trainers. Dress this sweater down and it will look cooler! So as you can see, sweaters are back! They are in the stores this fall from various designers but with the suggestions from the above designers you will have a head start. The sweater is a cleaner look than that old sweatshirt you have been wearing and this fall the cleaner the look the better. It’s all about classic simplicity!
